At last .........Here it is !!!

Hi everyone,

You have been very patient and today I have for you
the project made especially for us by Mr Tim Holtz.

As you all know in February Sandy, Rebecca, Carol and I attended the NEC to see what new goodies would be available in the coming months.

Carol and I were lucky enough to watch some of the demos and of course Tim Holtz was proving very popular.

I couldn't resist being cheeky and asking him if he would please work his magic on a project I could bring back especially for his fans at The Craft Barn.

He was very happy to oblige and here it is in the making............

In true Tim Holtz style, take one plain tag and add the new Distress Stains in a variety of colours.
Next, add a stamp or two!!

A spritz of Perfect Pearl Mist.

There is always room for a little Distress Ink around the edges!

Distress Stains work really well on his plain tape.  Just randomly add the colours.

Next, scrunch up the tape, dry with a heat gun and knot at top of tag.

Tim took out a bag of his lovely metal embellishments and picked out some to add to our tag.

Now, here is something you will want!!!  A little gadget to make holes in his metal
embellishments.  It was so easy to use and can make two different sized holes.  He did offer it
to me to try out but unfortunately with my 'bad hand' I couldn't have a go!
With holes, the embellishments can easily be added to the tag.

He also added a metal corner and a tassel to the knotted tape.

And here is the finished piece......

Just to prove it is real!!

I know a lot of you will be inspired by this wonderful project.
The pictures really do not do it justice, so come and see it at the shop.

Thank you Tim, there's always a welcome for you at The Craft Barn!

Well sadly he won't be here at the shop this weekend but Carol Cann, Karen Maccoy and I will be. So come and see us instead!!

We will be demoing in the shop between 10.00 and 4.00 with some of the lovely new products we saw at the NEC - Distress Stains, Masks and all sorts of goodies.

Carol Cockbain is going to be taking an extra Dreamweaver Masterclass on Saturday too and if you are quick there may still be one or two places left, so phone the shop as soon as possible (01342 836398).

Well that is all for now, I shall be back on Friday with another post for you.

See you soon,

Jane

Guest Designer - Crafty Individuals

Hi everyone,

Well, where has this month gone......... here is the last post from our Guest Designer for March

Cheryl

Today, Cheryl has two lovely projects for us.

To make the first card, Cheryl started with a blank white card and a My Paper World
Stencil - Grasses and Embellishments.  Press the stencil carefully down onto the card on the left side.

Next apply My Paper World Paper Pen - Dark Carmine Red over the stencil, making sure all
areas are covered.  Use a palette knife to smooth paste.

Carefully remove stencil and leave to dry.

On another piece of white smooth card, stamp Crafty Individuals - Bird in Heart 1, twice
using black Archival Ink.

Stick one image on card to right of flourish.
Cut out the bird and flower from second image and decoupage with sticky foam pads

Colour areas on stamped image with Dark Carmine Red Paper Soft Pen as shown in picture.

Add some butterflies to finish.

And now for our second project today..........

For this card, start with a 6x6 blank white card and a piece of scrap paper 4x4.
Place paper centrally on card.
Using My Paper World Clear Stamps - Floral Embellishments and Crimson Archival Ink,
add flourishes to card as shown below.

When the central mask is removed ...............

Cheryl then added an image from Crafty Individuals paper pad - People and Places
which was mounted onto squares of coloured card and then stuck on top of flourishes.

Add some fibres, beads, buttons and embellishments to finish.

So, there you are, another two beautiful cards from Cheryl.

Thank you Cheryl for your lovely projects this month.  We hope you have enjoyed being our
guest designer, we have certainly enjoyed seeing your work .

See you soon,

Jane

Isasart Marianne D's dies tutorial

Hi,
Today I wanted to share another amazing tutorial made by Isasart using the Marianne D's dies. If you thought that those dies were for the "cute world" only, think again...
I hope you will enjoy this vintage version.
Let us know in a comment below.
See you soon,
Isa

Isabelle started by cutting a tag with the Tim Holtz die. She then die-cut the Marianne D's creatable flowers and glued them onto the tag and inked it.

She then added more Marianne D's die-cuts (the pigeon) and inked with the Distress

For the bird, she added some metallic rub-ons, and shadowed with Copic Markers
She then added details with the Ranger white pen.

Now, did you see that lovely flower she has made on the tag?

Here's how she did it...

She cut some flowers with the Marianne D's ribbon flower dies and inked them with Distress inks

She then shaped the flowers using an embossing tool

She then folded one of the flower for the centre

and gradually make her flower

I started by cutting a tag and covering it with gesso. I then diluted a bit of Terra with water (for a subtle effect) and painted the tag

Once dried, I applied the Terra paste with my Dreamweaver Butterfly stencil.

I stencilled more butterflies on the tag and let it dry. This paste dries quicly so make sure you rinse your stencil and palette knife as soon as you are done.

I then coloured the tag with Cosmic shimmer Misters

I then made a butterfly using acetate and Ferro Paste

I chose 3 different Ferro colours

I placed my stencil on the acetated and applied the Ferro colours with a palette knife

And here you go, a gorgeous butterfly with 3 different shades. I will remove the paint at the center to add the butterfly's body

I then adhered my butterfly on a book page (I I had sprayed with inks) as I don't want to leave the transparency as is (transparent) which is something I would do for dragonfly wings. But not a butterfly

I then added and butterfly body I made with polymer clay and metal

I added a few gems et voilà: a beautiful altered tag

Wish Granted: Viva Decor Ferro and Terra pastes - part 2

Welcome to part two of our Ferro, Terra, Precious Metal Paints wish granted.

Today our project has been designed by Kathy Byrne, one of our tutors here at The Craft Barn.

For this project Kathy started with a 15cm square canvas.  She then cut a piece of grungepaper
slightly smaller than the canvas and with the Tim Holtz Bigz die Gadget Gears, cut the three shapes out of this piece.  She then placed ithe grungepaper into a Cuttlebug embossing folder -
Clockworks and embossed it using a Cuttlebug die-cutting machine
Put the cut out shapes to one side.

Randomly colour the grungepaper with Distress Inks - Vintage Photo, Barn Door, and Walnut Stain.

Kathy then placed a piece of Graphic 45 'Steampunk' paper behind the grungepaper and attached
 both to the canvas.
She then applied Ferro - Iron around the outside edge as shown in picture.

Next, with a small square canvas apply more Ferro - Iron and leave to dry.
Add picture from paper and attach small canvas to large canvas in top corner.

To colour the die cut gears, Kathy used a combination of Ferro - Gold Iron and Alcohol Inks -
Gold, Copper, Bottle and Stream.  These were sponged on.  When dry add to canvas as in picture.

To finish, place some copper coloured tacks down the side of the canvas and add border to top.

So, what do you think??

Thanks Kathy, this is a lovely project and I hope it inspires you!!

Part three follows tomorrow,

See you soon,

Jane

Wish Granted: Viva Decor Ferro and Terra pastes - part 1

Hello everyone.
Hope you are all well. Are you ready for a new Wishing Well... This week we are talking about Viva Decor with the Ferro and Terra pastes.

Julie said...

What a great idea! I'd love to see some ideas for the Viva Decor range -
I bought several of the stamp sets and a couple of the cream paints at the spring demo weekend. Saw lots of lovely demos on the day but haven't really used them as I've forgotten everything I saw!!! Love Chris's tutorial for the suitcases - that's gone in my favourite folder!!! Juliexx

Well Julie, hopefully you will enjoy the projects and step by steps over the next 3 days.  But before we start, what have you won....

1 pot of Viva Decor Terra paste
1 tube of Eco Green Craft paint
1 palette knife
(not necesseraly in the colours shown)

Please get in touch, and we'll send you your prize very quickly.

Your first fairy is Chris Dark, who had made a stunning project and step-by-step.
Hope you like it ....

Terra is a very thick paint with the consistency of whipped cream which dries to a beautiful finish much like terracotta or plaster, it comes in a range of earth tone colours and can be used on many surfaces including card, wood, plastic, pottery and can be painted.

To start, I die cut some chipboard using the Sizzix Alterations die then scooped some Terra from the pot onto a palette knife and spread over the surface. The layer needs to be only a couple of millimetres thick, if it's too thick then a good impression with the stamp won't be achieved.

Here the piece has been entirely covered with the terra.

Take the stamp and spritz it with some water which will help the stamp to release from the Terra.

Stamp into the terra and pull out. If you hear a squelching sound then you know that the Terra is too thick and you probably won't have a sharp impression. If that happens you can spread the Terra again taking some away and stamp again (I did with mine :D) as you have a good amount of working time. After stamping the main image the Katzelkraft chandelier, I also stamped with the swirl from the set around the edges

Allow the Terra to dry thoroughly usually this takes around thirty minutes and then coat the piece with black paint (or a colour or colours of your choice) ensuring that the paint is worked well into the depressions. The paint can be dried with a heat gun.

When completely dry take a piece of Cut and Dry foam and dab into some Precious Metal paint in Mother of Pearl. A thin layer of the paint on the foam is best as for this stage only the raised areas are to be highlighted with the pearl paint and a light touch is needed. Allow the paint to dry and then embellish the piece, I made mine into a wall hanging and also used the Precious Metal paint in Rose Pink to paint my grunge paper flower and butterflies and in Pistachio for the leaves.

Here's the finished project

Viva Decor Terra - Sahara
Viva Decor Precious Metal paints in Mother of Pearl, Pistachio, Rose Pink
Katzelkraft Stamps - Chandelier and Cirque 01
Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations Movers and Shapers Die - Baroque

*********

On this piece Viva Decor Ferro in silver was used for the base on the chipboard square. Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz 'Bitty Grunge' stamps were used to stamp into the Ferro, spritzed first with water to help the release. When the Ferro was dry it was painted with Viva Decor Precious Metal Paints in Coral, Gold and Azure Blue. The piece was attached to a square canvas painted with Gold Precious Metal paint then stamped using stazon ink with the Bitty Grunge stamps and painted as before.
